Jackson Township police have charged a Sharon man in connection with a vehicle crash in January, in which he was the driver.

Randall Musselman Jr., 29, of Sharon is charged with drug possession, speeding and failure to stop at a red light.

Musselman was injured in the crash on Jan. 27 after his Chevrolet Impala hit a guardrail along Little Creek Road and caught fire, according to Scott Garing, Harmony Fire District chief.

“While conducting this crash investigation, I observed that the vehicle had proceeded through the intersection and crashed into a guide rail for no apparent reason,” arresting officer Vaughn Pulgini said in his report.

A witness reported not seeing anyone in the upright driver’s seat and assumed the car was empty. Upon further inspection however, Musselman was found unconscious by the front floor board, and Harmony EMS transported him to the Allegheny General Hospital, according to documents.

Police later obtained a search warrant for Musselman’s car in February and found 17 small baggies, each with markings of green marijuana leaves on them.

“One of these baggies was found on the front floor board area and the others were found inside a safe that was on the back seat,” Pulgini said. The bags contained residue “consistent to marijuana,” he said.

Musselman voluntarily came to the police station in September after the meeting was rescheduled several times at his request, said documents.

“During the interview, Randall reported he could not recall any of the details before, during or immediately after the crash,” Pulgini said. “Randall alleged that he possibly blacked out at some point in time.”

Pulgini told Musselman what they had found in his car, and Musselman admitted that the baggies once contained marijuana, explaining that it was a long time ago.

Musselman is free on a nonmonetary bond and will be arraigned on Dec. 26.
