Evans City Police arrested a Cranberry Township woman last week for allegedly stealing $73,344.70 from Hines Ward’s Table 86 restaurant in Seven Fields, where she was employed.

Kimberly Cook, 53, is charged with theft by unlawful taking after she allegedly used the Table 86’s point of sale system to steal $73,344 over the course of her employment, according to police documents.

Howard Shiller, restaurant co-owner, first notified authorities of the thefts earlier this month.

“Shiller states that Cook has been taking cash payments from customers and ringing them up through the point of sale system as gift cards-certificates from August 2015 through the end of October 2017,” officer Brian Mazzanti, Evans City police, wrote in his report. “Over the past year, it is estimated 90 percent of the redeemed gift cards are linked to Cook’s account.”

Police took Cook into custody on Nov. 1, at which point she reportedly confessed to taking the cash and ringing the transaction to look like the customer used a gift card, keeping the cash for herself, Mazzanti said. Police said she also used the POS to take gift cards, making it look like customers purchased them.

“Cook stated she has no idea the amount that she has taken, but did not deny the theft,” documents said.
