Forgery case ended
An alleged serial counterfeit check forger's life on the run came to an end Tuesday.
McKeesport police in Allegheny County arrested Scott Elliot Payne Jr., 30, of Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, without incident.
Payne is wanted on 11 arrest warrants by a number of police departments in several counties, including Butler.
He is accused of passing what looked to be authentic payroll checks and cashing those checks for hundreds of dollars at a time.
Police in six counties were looking for him on charges of forgery, theft by deception and bad checks. The alleged crimes occurred between June 2 and Sept. 11.
Police in Butler, Saxonburg, and Butler and Jackson townships were among the departments with warrants for Payne's arrest.
He was booked into the Allegheny County Jail at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday. Details of his arrest were not immediately available.
