Infrastructure bank moving ahead
The Butler County Commissioners could take another step this week toward providing a system for municipalities to apply for financial assistance for infrastructure projects.
The commissioners announced Thursday that they will consider a resolution at their Wednesday meeting that would set program guidelines for the infrastructure bank, establish a five-person advisory board and adopt bylaws on how the board would function.
The bank would contain $500,000 in natural gas drilling impact fee revenue, and municipalities could apply for subsidized, low-interest loans to provide collateral and cover the municipality's payments to the lender supplying the main funds for a project.
Nonprofit organizations and school districts would also be eligible for funds from the infrastructure bank, but would need a municipality to sponsor them.
Applications from municipalities will begin being received by the county on Dec. 1, according to Mark Gordon, county planning director.
He said gas drilling impact fee revenue would continue to fund the infrastructure bank in the future.
