A Slippery Rock man charged alongside three others with stealing $31,000 worth of metal pleaded guilty in Butler County Court on Wednesday.

Scott L. Moyer, 29, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor receiving stolen property before Judge Timothy McCune. The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 24 months probation and $31,000 in restitution. He is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 28.

Moyer was initially charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property, which was lowered to a misdemeanor as part of the plea, after an incident on Oct. 28, 2016, in Butler.

He was charged alongside Brian J. Miller, 27, and Destiny S. Stemmerich, 21, both of Brady Township, and Zachary A. Atwell, 24, of Harrisville, after the theft of more than $30,000 in metal and other property in Butler and Armstrong counties.

Investigators believe Atwell, Miller and Moyer on Oct. 27 drove to the M.G. Dyess facility in Clintonville, Venango County, and stole numerous items valued at $31,000.

Among the property, according to court documents, was aluminum and brass fittings, two industrial water flow meters, a generator, seven batteries and extension cords.

M.G. Dyess is a Mississippi-based company that provides pipeline construction and related services to oil and gas transmission companies in the United States, according to the firm's website.

The three men along with Stemmerich later took some of the stolen items to MRC Scrap Metals on Kittanning Street, where they tried to sell them, documents said.

After being arrested Stemmerich told troopers that Atwell and Moyer had been “stealing scrap for several months,” according to a police affidavit. The property, she said, was stored at a home on Buttercup Lane where she, Miller and Moyer lived.

Atwell, Miller and Stemmerich previously pleaded guilty, with Atwell being sentenced to one to two years in state prison, Miller to 36 months in the county Intermediate Punishment Program and Stemmerich to 12 months probation.
