BUFFALO TWP — Two incumbents retained their six-year seats as supervisors in the township.

Republican Matthew Sweeny received 864 votes and Democrat Ron Zampogna got 705 votes, to Republican opponent Matthew Oehling's 524 votes.

Sweeny took the most votes in each of the township's three precincts, according to the county Bureau of Elections' unofficial vote tally on Tuesday night.

Zampogna took the second spot in all three precincts, but saw a closer result with Oehling in precinct 1. There, Zampogna earned 31 percent of the votes to Oehling's 28 percent.

Sweeny was not available for comment on Tuesday night, but Zampogna was putting his young son to sleep after the late tabulation.

“I'm excited,” Zampogna said of retaining the current supervisors. “We served the township for a few years now, and I think we've done a good job keeping the township going in the right direction.”

Zampogna said it will be business-as-usual now that the election is over.

“I look forward to serving the community for another term and we will continue to keep Buffalo Township a safe and pleasant community,” he said.

Oehling appreciated the votes cast in his favor on Tuesday.

“I wish Mr. Zampogna and Mr. Sweeny well and I hope they do what's best for the people of Buffalo Township,” he said.
