CRANBERRY TWP — The Waterpark did well this year despite a drop in daily admission numbers, a Cranberry official said.

“We're still getting people coming to the pool this year,” said Pete Geis, director of township parks and recreation.

Memberships increased this year, Geis said. The facility offered more membership incentives after noticing last year that daily admissions had increased significantly. The push for more memberships worked at the expense of the daily admissions.

“Now our daily admissions took a hit this year,” Geis said. “That is always based on weather and the weather forecast. It didn't drop too much. We're still getting people coming to the pool.”

Although June tends to be a rainy month, attendance is usually made up in July and August when days become much hotter and sunnier.

However this year there were not many long stretches of 90-degree days, Geis said. “We didn't have those dogs days of summer hit,” he said.

Geis said the weather forecast can also affect Waterpark attendance as much as the actual weather. The forecast called for rain or poor weather many days, but often times the poor weather did not show up.

Some new amenities this year were a hit. A second entrance at the north of the park was opened up to ease admission lines.

“It was such a good amenity for our pool users, we're going to keep it,” he said.

Geis said the park also made some small enhancements in the bathrooms and expanded concession stand offerings. Getting in to the park was made easier with new mobile membership card scanning features at the entrances.

“We got lines through a lot faster this year,” he said.

The Waterpark remains open through Labor Day.
