A tree burns this morning after falling on power lines along Crisswell Road in Penn Township. Today's snow is to be followed by unseasonably cold temperatures with a low of 13 forecast tonight and a high of just 24 on Saturday.

Old Man Winter isn't quite done with Butler County.

The National Weather Service reports between 1 and 4.6 inches of snow fell across the county from Thursday night through early this morning.

Just south of Butler received 4.6 inches as of 6:45 a.m. Harrisville had 3 inches as of 6 a.m. Cranberry Township had 3.5 inches as of 7:50 a.m. Evans City had 1 inch as of 6:30 a.m. The snow caused power outages throughout the county.

West Penn Power had 1,140 outages reported at 8:20 a.m. Most of that number, 1,100, were in Penn Township.

Simultaneously, Penn Power had 274 outages spread across the southwest section of the county.

Todd Meyers, First Energy spokesman, said broken branches impacted the lines.

“That wet, heavy snow breaks limbs,” said Meyers.

Crews, which were readied due to the forecast, were working to restore power.

“We're staffed up,” he said.

According to Butler County 911 records, there were 14 fallen trees and 13 downed wires between 2:38 and 9 a.m.

Traffic lights at several locations along Route 8 south of Butler were out for a time during the morning drive time.
