BRUIN — Amid the storm damage Thursday night was a wreck on Route 268 in which the driver abandoned the vehicle.

Chief Jeff Pyle of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department said the silver Mustang struck a guard rail and then was abandoned.

Firefighters aided state police in the search for the driver.

“We couldn’t find him,” Pyle said.

The wreck was reported to Butler County 911 at 8:18 p.m.

Police impounded the car.

Pyle pointed out that accident was the second along that stretch of road Thursday.

He said the first one, which was reported about 2:30 p.m., also involved the driver fleeing the scene, but in the vehicle.

Along with the accidents, firefighters were kept busy with the storm damage, which included losing a section of the roof for the department’s second garage.

Pyle said a 5-foot section of the 28-foot long roof was lost.

“It just flopped over,” he said.

Shingles along the entire roof were also blown off the structure.

The department houses its brush truck and backup generator, which was exposed to the rain.

Pyle said maintenance would be done to the generator to ensure it did not have water damage.

The fire department is insured.
