Butler County Sheriff Mike Slupe and Armstrong Utilities will be recognized Aug. 31 by the Moraine Trails Council for their assistance to Butler County Boy Scouts.

Slupe will be honored with the Good Scout Award, and Armstrong Utilities will receive the Company of the Year Award at the Butler County Good Scout Reception at the Conley Resort and Conference Center in Butler.

“It took me off guard,” Slupe said. “I'm truly humbled and honored to be considered for this prestigious award.”

Slupe had been the district chairman for Glacier Ridge District of the Moraine Trails Council.

Slupe said, “I recently gave up that position because I've been awful busy here at work.”

Barry Hootman, who replaced Slupe in the position, said the honoree for the Good Scout Award is a person who is active in promoting the relationship between Scouts and their community and helping scouting programs.

“This prestigious reception celebrates the accomplishments of our finest citizens and benefits local scouting,” Hootman said. “Mike has been a positive force for youth causes in Butler County, particularly in scouting.”

Regarding the Company of the Year Award, Bob Stamm, Armstrong operations manager, said, “We feel honored to be recognized by the Boy Scouts as a contributor.

Stamm said the company puts a lot of effort in supporting community organizations, but the Boy Scouts program may be the easiest to contribute to.

“A lot of our employees are involved in scouting, either their kids or grandkids,” he said. “It's a win-win.”

Stamm said the company continues to help Scouts in their Eagle rank projects, in addition to its financial support. Stamm said the company plans to continue to support the Scouts.

“We feel it's a very good program,” he said.

In addition to the awards, the 5 p.m. reception will be a fundraising event. Those attending will be able to donate through their RSVP letters, which are due Aug. 25.

“Our youth need our support to continue their scouting experience,” Hootman said.
