A memorial golf tournament will be held on the birthday of a man who died in March of a heroin overdose.

The first Clubbing Out Heroin Golf Tournament will be Aug. 21 at Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred Golf Course. It will be in memory of Bradley M. Zulick, a 29-year-old who died of a heroin overdose on March 17 in Butler.

The tournament, which will be on what would have been Zulick’s 30th birthday, will raise money for local drug-prevention groups and programs. That’s been the family’s focus since Zulick’s death, organizers say.

The event, which is a golf scramble, already has been filled.

“Even though I feel like I am alone in losing my son in such a tragic way, I know that many others are going through the same thing,” said Sue Zulick Check, Brad’s mother.

Proceeds from the event will benefit CANDLE Inc.’s Reality Tour drug-prevention program and Hope for Broken Hearts, a weekly support group for families whose lives have been impacted by addition.

The Hope group meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church, 727 W. Old Route 422 in Butler.

Tournament organizers said a contribution also will be made to the group Butler County Against Heroin.
