ZELIENOPLE — Although the borough’s 32nd annual Country Fall Festival is two months away, plans are already being finalized.

Borough council Monday night approved the fall festival for Oct. 8 and 9.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said festival volunteer Dan Fritch at the meeting.

Fritch said 20,000 to 30,000 people are expected to visit the community over the two days.

Festival activities planned for Four Corners Park include sidewalk sales, children’s activities, horse-drawn wagon rides, historic encampments and a farmers market.

Musical entertainment also is planned for both days.

The 11th annual Chili Cook Off will be Oct. 8.

A car cruise is planned for Creekside Plaza in Harmony on Oct. 9 with approval from the plaza’s owner and merchants.

“The car cruise is a huge hit,” Fritch said. “It’s the end of the season for a lot of the car cruise people. Before they put their cars away for the fall, they usually come here.”

A free shuttle will be provided for festivalgoers by Passavant Retirement Community.

Fritch said the festival would benefit from the municipal parking lot behind the Kaufman House if it is completed in time.

The parking lot, planned to have 111 spaces, is scheduled to be finished in October. However, the exact completion date has not been determined.

“If it were open, that would be great,” Fritch said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

The Spring Street parking lot was requested to be closed for the event during business hours.

However, council members said the lot’s closure may not be needed if nothing is set up in that area.

The parking lot closure will be discussed at a later council meeting.

Council also voted to donate $500 to the festival.
