JACKSON TWP — Four teachers in the Seneca Valley School District will have some unusual furniture in their classrooms this year.

The school board can vote next Monday to approve buying up to $75,000 in items for active learning pilot classrooms at the intermediate high school.

The nontraditional furniture is all on wheels allowing it to be moved around the room, Matthew McKinley, assistant superintendent of secondary instruction, said to the board on Monday evening.

Rotating chairs, triangular tables and other nontraditional furniture will allow for a variety of seating arrangements and will hopefully boost student engagement, McKinley said.

The equipment comes at a steeply discounted cost because students and teachers will complete a survey to give the company feedback on how it worked.

The pilot program was proposed by Intermediate High School Principal Matthew Delp, McKinley said.
