WASHINGTON TWP — Two men were seriously injured Sunday evening in a T-bone crash caused when one of the drivers ran a stop sign, state police said.

The collision, which occurred about 7:25 p.m., closed Route 38 at Old Brick Road for nearly an hour.

Medical helicopters flew both drivers — Duane T. Anderson, 31, of Washington Township and Garrett W. Brugh, 19, of McKean County — to UPMC Presbyterian hospital. Their conditions were not known this morning.

Police said Anderson was traveling east on Old Brick Road in a 2002 Ford F-150 when he failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup continued into the intersection and into the path of Brugh’s 2000 Ford Escort that was southbound on Route 38 near the Beer Garden.

The car struck the driver’s side of the truck, police said. The collision flipped the pickup onto its side, throwing Anderson from the vehicle, which stopped on the east berm.

Emergency crews found Anderson, who was not wearing a seat belt, laying next to his truck.

The crash spun the car 180 degrees, police said. It stopped in the northbound lane facing north. Brugh, who was wearing a seat belt, was still in his car when crews got there.

North Washington volunteer firefighters tended to the injured drivers while West Sunbury firefighters assisted with traffic control.

Chief Reid Campbell of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department said his department also set up a landing zone for both helicopters at the North Washington Rodeo Grounds on Route 38, about a mile and a half south of the crash.

Police said their investigation continues.
