JACKSON TWP — Two development plans received unanimous approval from township supervisors Thursday evening.

A 42-acre development between Route 528, Interstate 79 and FedEx is planned to have a hotel, restaurant, convenience store and a flexible-use building.

Zelienople-based Plunkett Motor Freight Rentals is the company developing the land.

“We’re happy to see the development come to the township,” said Joe Belsterling, PMF Rentals partner and lifelong Zelienople resident. “We’re happy to be a part of it and hope it continues to be a beneficial aspect in the community.”

Although the development has received interest from numerous businesses, none have been confirmed.

Six acres near the corner of I-79 and Route 528 will be home for the hotel, a restaurant and a convenience store. Another 12 acres adjacent to the Fed-Ex distribution center will have office and storage space for businesses.

“I think we have seen this coming for a long time,” supervisor Ron Lutz said of development in the area. “It’s a good location.”

Plans for each phase will come to the township separately for final approval.

The hotel is planned to have 55 rooms and to be no higher than three stories.

“I’m glad to see a hotel, our first,” supervisors Chairman Trent Geis said.

Belsterling said dirt may be moved within the next 30 to 45 days.

The 20,000-square-foot addition to the adjacent FedEx distribution center also was approved by supervisors Thursday.

The addition, which was not in the original design, will be home to lab testing for the center’s conveyor system and packaging.

The center is expected to open in August and employ about 230 people, which includes creating 90 new jobs.

“We’re excited for the progress in the township,” said Doug Sippel, owner of Sippel Development which leases the FedEx site.

Both plans were recommended by the township planning commission earlier this month.

Get Air, a chain trampoline park also will move into the area by Sippel’s office near FedEx. Sippel said the park may move in as soon as October.
