CRANBERRY TWP — A township man is charged with arson after allegedly setting his pickup truck on fire.

Christopher D. Rosen, 32, was arraigned Friday on felony arson, felony risking catastrophe and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges stemming from an incident March 24.

He was released on a nonmonetary bail.

According to the criminal complaint, township police, fire department and EMS were dispatched to Rosen’s house on Shady Oak Drive at 1:42 p.m. for a report of a truck on fire with a man inside. The 911 caller reported that Rosen had been acting strangely, throwing gasoline on vehicles in the driveway and around the house.

When an officer, arrived he found the truck on fire and Rosen in the back yard of the house. He was taken by an ambulance to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

He had burns, but his injuries were not life threatening, said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino, spokesman for the township police.

Charges were filed Thursday after police completed their investigation, Mascellino said.

Police talked to three witnesses who saw part or all of the incident, including Rosen’s father rescuing him from the truck after it was on fire.

The fire department put out the burning truck, a 2011 GMC Sierra. The vehicle started at the top of the sloped driveway, but it slid down the driveway after it was on fire and ended in the street.

The vehicle was destroyed, and the road also was damaged. Repairs to the road were estimated by police to be $2,830.

By allegedly lighting the fire, Rosen put firefighters, police officers and others in danger, according to the complaint.

He is scheduled to appear in district court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 2.
