DONEGAL TWP — A fire in a dryer broke out just after 7 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of East Slippery Rock Street with no major damage to the home and no injuries.

Cody Craig, the chief of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire was contained to the dryer when crews arrived at 626 E. Slippery Rock St.

Mary Dawson, who lives at the home with her mother, Cindy, and her two children, said she smelled something coming from the dryer. When she saw the fire starting in the back of the dryer, she took out the clothes and closed the door to contain the flames.

Craig said nobody was injured and there was no structural damage to the home. The dryer is unusable, Dawson said.

The Bruin, Petrolia and the Sugarcreek volunteer fire departments responded to the call.
