EVANS CITY — A borough man who allegedly traded nude photos with an underage girl had one of his charges withdrawn Tuesday in district court.

Travis C. McCandless, 23, is accused of chatting with a 15-year-old girl who lives in the Prospect area over a span of several months in 2015, according to court records.

In December, state police were notified by a Facebook employee about McCandless allegedly having inappropriate exchanges with a minor. In April, police obtained a search warrant for his Facebook profile. Officers allegedly discovered that both parties sent sexually explicit photos and had sexually explicit conversations.

In April, Armstrong Cable traced the IP address using the account to his address. He was arrested and placed in Butler County Prison June 25 after charges were filed.

At a preliminary hearing before District Judge Wayne Seibel Tuesday, McCandless waived to court one count of felony child pornography and one count of misdemeanor corruption of minors.

After speaking with his attorney, the district attorney’s office agreed to withdraw one charge of felony unlawful contact with a minor.

McCandless’ bail was also reduced from $25,000 to $1,000 at the hearing, though he was still in Butler County Prison as of Wednesday night.

McCandless has several previous DUI and drug convictions in the county. Last year, he pleaded guilty to a charge of DUI, solvent or noxious substance, and was sentenced to 105 days in prison.
