BUTLER TWP — School may be out for summer, but not for children enrolled in the Kids on Campus program at Butler County Community College.

The summer enrichment program offers one-week courses for six weeks through Aug. 4 for students from kindergarten to 12th grade, based on the grade a child will enter in the fall, according to Eva Lowerre with the Continuing Education Department at BC3.

The courses run from Mondays to Thursdays and are either in the morning from 9 a.m. to noon or in the afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m., enabling children to sign up for half days or full days.

For students in kindergarten or first grade, camps include a Water World week and an Arctic Adventures week.

Students in second to fourth grades have plenty of options, with highlights including Lego Robotics, DIY Sewing, Flag Football and Outdoor Adventures.

For children from fifth to eighth grade, different programs are Amusement Park Engineers, Presidential Expose, Robotics I and II, and Intro to Running.

The Teens on Campus program, for sixth to 12th graders includes options of Fondant Cakes, Web Design, SAT Prep and Creative Writing, among others.

While the camps run between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., before and after child care options are available.

“The teachers are all certified teachers — local teachers — and assistants are normally college kids majoring in education,” Lowerre said.
