James Gibbons III
James Scott “Jim” Gibbons III, 51, of Prospect passed away peacefully Sunday at his home.
He was born July 6, 1964, in Stamford, Conn., to James Scott Gibbons Jr. and Sharon (Madden) Gibbons.
Jim was a 1982 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Va. He received a bachelor's degree in medical technology from George Mason University in 1988.
Jim worked for Abbott Laboratories for 25 years in a variety of capacities, earning multiple high achievement awards along the way.
He had many interests and hobbies, including woodworking, fly fishing, hiking, boating, disc golfing, craft beer brewing, golfing and bowling. He was always active in his sons' activities while they were growing up, helping to coach their youth teams of basketball, soccer, baseball, football and hockey. Jim assisted with coaching the Boys and Girls Club football team in Prospect and was a “Band Dad” for the Slippery Rock High School Marching Band. He enjoyed cheering on his home teams, the Washington Redskins and Washington Capitals. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Patty Gibbons, who he married Oct. 7, 1989; two sons, who are the lights of his life, Bradley James Gibbons and Russell Patrick Gibbons, both of Prospect; his parents, James and Sharon Gibbons of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother, Peter Gibbons of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Kathy Hauglie and her husband, Brandon, and Janet Blomquist and her husband, Robert, both of Panama City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
GIBBONS — Friends of James Scott “Jim” Gibbons III, who died Sunday, July 5, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev.
