MUDDY CREEK TWP — The organizers of the Regatta at Lake Arthur will use the Internet this year to collect donations.

The 17th annual Regatta is planned Aug. 1 and 2 in Moraine State Park.

East Wing Events, the company that runs the regatta, recently launched a donation campaign on GoFundMe.com.

The campaign will run through Aug. 15 to collect money instead of volunteers taking cash donations at the regatta as has been done in the past.

East Wing has a goal of $10,000, said event director Holly Muchnok.

The online campaign will allow people who enjoy the event to show their support before, during or after the event.

Donations made before the event will go to this year’s costs, while donations made during and after will go to the 2016 regatta, she said.

The two-day event is free to attend and is supported by numerous sponsors, but the donations help keep the event free and allow the organizers to plan more activities and programs.

“This gives the community a way to participate and assist with the regatta. The more funding we have the more we can do, the more bands we can bring out,” Muchnok said.

In addition to the boat races, the event features live entertainment and a variety of activities for children and adults.

Returning this year will be a SummersCool tent that will feature several free programs where people can learn skills such as casting a fishing rod, archery and boating skills.

That weekend will be busy at the state park because both the Professional Disc Golf World Championship and the Puddle Duck Racer World Championship also will be held there.
