Zelie installs traffic devices
ZELIENOPLE — The borough has installed new traffic control devices to make travel safer for motorists and pedestrians.
Two one-way signs, three do not enter signs, a stop sign and an arrangement of cones and posts were added late last week to the intersections of McKim Street, South Green Lane and West Beaver Street.
The cones and posts outline the boundary of the intersections.
The part of the road that leads to South Green Lane is one way. A no parking sign also is there.
Traffic heading out of McKim Street onto South Green Lane now is greeted by three do not enter signs and two one way signs. Immediately after turning right, motorists have another stop sign before heading onto Beaver Street.
Crosswalk paint also intersects the boundary for pedestrians to walk through.
It is hoped that this will allow the section to be safer, borough engineer Tom Thompson said.
The borough had received numerous complaints about vehicles in the intersections. Traffic on West Beaver Street has no stop signs and the intersection between South Green Lane and West Beaver is near a bend in the road by a residential neighborhood.
“It was a real problem area for traffic,” borough manager Don Pepe said.
The signs and devices are meant “to keep traffic in the appropriate lanes of travel,” according to the borough’s website.
