Joseph D. Spino, 64, of Butler died unexpectedly Saturday at UPMC Bedford.

Born Nov. 10, 1950, in Butler, he was a son of Rudolph J. Spino and the late Amelia J. (Sawron) Spino.

Joe owned and operated the Cheers Bar on Saxonburg Road in Butler.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, was an avid basketball fan, as he was an assistant basketball coach at the Butler County Community College and also formerly for Butler Catholic School. Joe’s pride and joy was his grandson, Anthony.

Surviving is his wife, Lori A. (Shulik) Spino, who he married Sept. 21, 1974; one son, Dante M. Spino of Cornelius, N.C.; one grandson, Anthony Joseph Spino and his mother, Rose Devlin, both of York; his father, Rudolph J. Spino of Butler; one brother, Patrick J. Spino of North Hills; one sister-in-law, Debby (Tom) Schnur of Butler; two brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Shulik and Marty (Sue) Shulik, all of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Amelia Spino; his son, Dominic J. “Dom” Spino, who died July 19, 2007; one brother-in-law, Rick Shulik; and one sister-in-law, Donna Spino.

SPINO — Friends of Joseph D. Spino, who died Saturday, April 11, 2015, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7to 9 p.m. Tuesday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz, pastor, will officiate.Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.St. Paul's Catholic women and Christian mothers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.Joe's family requests that donations be made to Butler Catholic School, 515 E. Locust St., Butler, PA 16001.
