Harold H. Michael

Harold Michael

Harold Herman “Herm” Michael, 90, lived a long, good life. He was the kind of person who would go out of his way to help others and shy away from recognition. He passed away Wednesday.

Harold was the youngest son born to Blanche and John Michael on Aug. 8, 1924, in the South Side of Pittsburgh.

He was drafted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific.

He married Doris A. Peters on Oct. 12, 1949. Together they had four children, Dawn, Peter, John and Kevin, and also raised two of his grandchildren, Lori and Bryan Whittenberger.

Herm had his own truck and later drove for Eazor, the former Williams & Co., PMF Trailers and several others companies. He was a member of the Zelienople Condor Club and volunteered with the PA Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. He was humble, hardworking, honest, faithful and, occasionally, a prankster. He was also a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Doris; his two sons, Peter (Sandy) Michael and John (Marie) Michael; eight grandchildren and their spouses; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Herm was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer; two children; and two grandchildren.
