Suspected burglar charged with 2nd similar break-in

Police say man picked locks

CHICORA — An East Butler man already accused of using a credit card to try and get inside one home is now headed for court on charges he employed the same technique to break into another house.

Brent E. Henry, 41, on Tuesday waived his preliminary hearing in the latest case in front of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora. Henry is charged with burglary and theft.

State police said Henry on March 19 unlocked the front door of David Hepler’s home on Mahood Road in Concord Township. He allegedly made off with $90 in currency.

Investigators eventually spoke to their suspect this past weekend. He admitted to the crime, according to court documents. Troopers arrested him on Monday.

For police, it was a bit of déjà vu.

Troopers last month arrested Henry on charges that he used his credit card March 21 to pick the lock on the garage door at a mobile home on Queen Junction Road in Clay Township.

But homeowner Dennis Dunkle heard noises and caught the suspect, investigators said. Henry ran out a back door in the garage. However, in his getaway he dropped the credit card.

“The credit card displayed the name Brent Henry,” a police affidavit said.

Police a short time later found Henry, who admitted he opened Dunkle’s garage door with the card, court documents said.

He told investigators he was looking for gasoline for a friend’s car, and he thought Dunkle was away.

Henry faces trespass charges in that case, which is pending in Butler County Court.

Henry is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
