Butler’s junior high wrestling team placed 11th out of 29 teams at the North Allegheny Invitational recently.
Saavon Mosby was the Golden Tornado’s lone champion, winning the 210-pound weight class and improving to 19-0 on the year. He recorded one pin six seconds into the match.
Riley Burdine won three matches to reach the 250-pound title match, where he dropped a 1-0 decision to an undefeated Belle Vernon wrestler. Sam Lambermont placed fourth at 155 pounds.
The following Butler wrestlers have winning records with two weeks remaining in the season: Colton Spohn at 12-6, Jasck CVodispot 13-5, Nate McDonald 10-7, Michael Crawford 14-6, Justin Stewart 12-5, Lambermont, Jacob White 13-6, Mosby 19-0 and Burdine 9-1.
Basketball
Ethan Morton scored 17 points to lead the Butler boys seventh grade White to a 42-38 victory over Carson recently.
Todd Verner added 12 points and Anthony Malloy six for Butler, which plays at Pine-Richland today.
The team (12-4) won its seventh in a row, besting Pine-Richland, 43-36, as Morton scored 19 points, Mason Montag nine and Malloy eight.
