Woman, 20, faces trial in stabbing case

Man suffered perforated liver

CHICORA — A 20-year-old Summit Township woman is headed for trial on charges she stabbed her ex-boyfriend with a pink and blue folding knife after luring him to her home last month.

Jaclyn R. Kellaway on Tuesday waived her preliminary hearing at District Judge Lewis Stoughton’s office in Chicora on a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and possessing an instrument of crime

State police, however, filed another felony charge against Kellaway on Tuesday, accusing her of selling marijuana. She waived that charge, too.

Police alleged the defendant on Sept. 20 texted 28-year-old Codie Moyer of Butler, a former boyfriend, asking him to come over to her Grohman Road home.

Moyer rode a bicycle but before he got there, she met him outside at Grohman and Saxonburg roads, according to court documents.

The two got into an argument, police said, and Kellaway removed a knife from her pocket. She allegedly cut Moyer’s neck.

“Kellaway then lunged at Moyer stabbing him in the abdomen,” a police affidavit said.

He suffered a perforated intestine and liver, authorities said.

Still, Moyer managed to get away and walked to a nearby convenience store for help.

He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and subsequently flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital for treatment.

He later was released and is recovering from injuries.

Police learned of the stabbing and went to the suspected crime scene where they found drops of blood on Grohman Road.

Moyer waived her Miranda warnings and spoke to investigators, documents said, admitting she cut Moyer’s neck and stabbed him in the side.

“Kellaway said she intended to stab Moyer when he arrived, but that she was not trying to kill him,” according to the affidavit.

The defendant was arraigned on charges in connection with the stabbing and placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Police later that day obtained a search warrant for Kellaway’s home. Inside, they recovered the folding knife used in the alleged attack. The knife appeared to have blood on it, police said.

But the search also uncovered evidence that indicated Kellaway was a marijuana dealer, investigators said.

Troopers found nine bags of suspected marijuana and another bag of suspected marijuana seeds, according to documents.

Among other items taken from the house were three marijuana grinders, three digital scales and “owe sheets,” which dealers typically use to list customers and amounts of individual drug transactions.

Investigators also seized $995 in currency during the search.
