SR board hires consultant Tuesday
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The Slippery Rock School District will use consultant Vic Morrone to assist it in its search for a new superintendent.
The school board voted Monday night to use Morrone to help replace Kathy Nogay, who announced in October that she will retire at the end of the school year. She became superintendent in 2007.
School board member Michael Scheer, chairman of the superintendent search committee, recommended that the board hire Morrone.
Todd O’Shell, who often helps with Morrone’s searches, told the school board that the first step of the process would be for the search committee to meet with Morrone and set a timeline.
He said Morrone suggested a timeline where the committee gets applications in late March or early April and holds interviews in April or May. O’Shell said the committee can use the timeline at its discretion.
Then, Morrone would help the committee craft an advertisement for the position. He also would help it plan how and where to advertise the position. O’Shell said advertising can cost between $1,500 and $5,000, and said it is up to the committee to decide how much to spend.
O’Shell said that Morrone can help the committee develop an online survey, where district residents and stakeholders would say what they are looking for in a superintendent.
After receiving applications, Morrone would screen them to make sure that they meet the qualifications. He also would get some background on each candidate. Then, the committee would decide which candidates to interview.
O’Shell said that Morrone has more than 22 years of experience as a superintendent in Allegheny and Beaver counties. In 2013, he helped the Mars School District find Superintendent Jim Budzilek to replace William Pettigrew, who retired.
“He has a lot of contacts still in the education business,” said O’Shell, who worked at the South Butler School District for 18 years and assisted with some of its superintendent searches.
O’Shell currently is the school and student events coordinator and athletic director for the Freeport School District.
