2-car wreck in city leads to drug arrest

Butler police Sunday arrested a city man after they responded to a two-car crash and found a quarter pound of marijuana, several bags of heroin and other drug contraband.

Terrance L. “Suave” Sloan, 37, of Butler, who is charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession, remains in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Sloan was one of the drivers in a collision shortly after 7 p.m. at West North Street and Wagner Avenue.

Officers immediately grew suspicious while speaking to Sloan and smelling “a strong odor of marijuana” coming from him and his vehicle, a police affidavit said.

Soon after, one of the officers spotted Sloan pull a large plastic bag of suspected marijuana out of his pants and try to pass it to his passenger, who was standing next to him.

Police seized the bag, which they said contained 113.6 grams of marijuana.

A search of Sloan’s vehicle turned up four stamp bags of suspected heroin, hidden in a cigarette pack, according to court documents. Officers also found a marijuana grinder.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Monday arraigned Sloan on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.
