Robber makes off with cash from store

MUDDY CREEK TWP — An unknown masked robber held up a convenience store New Year’s Day night, state police said.

The bandit about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday walked into the Last Minit Mart on Route 19 in Muddy Creek Township and demanded money just as the store was getting ready to close, according to a police report.

The robber, a white man, wore a dark blue hooded sweat shirt, black pants and a light colored bandanna that covered his face.

A young woman working at the front counter turned over $178 in currency to the suspect, who fled after the holdup. A second employee was in the back of the store at the time of the crime.

It was not immediately known if the robber had a weapon.

“But the (clerk) assumed he had a gun,” said police Sgt. Patrick Sarnese.

Police would not say if they believe the suspect drove off in a getaway vehicle.

Sarnese said investigators are reviewing video images of the robber from a surveillance camera outside the store, which is attached to Eppinger’s Restaurant.

A manager at the store was unavailable for comment this morning.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.
