MERCER — A county courthouse in western Pennsylvania has reopened after a bomb threat, and a woman has been arrested in connection with the case.

Mercer County spokesman Jeffrey Greenburg announced the closure just before 10 a.m. Monday but says that bomb-sniffing dogs found nothing in a sweep of the building. As a result, the courthouse reopened at 1 p.m.

Authorities say they traced a threatening phone call to Margie Small of Sharpsville. She was arrested Monday and is facing terroristic threats and harassment charges.

No attorney was listed on court papers, and Small couldn't be reached for comment.

The Blair County courthouse in Hollidaysburg received a similar threat by email on Friday that was determined to be a hoax.

GREENSBURG — A drinking water alert that affected 120,000 western Pennsylvania residents and numerous businesses has been lifted.The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County announced Monday afternoon that a series of tests found no problems with the water after a damaged filter was replaced.Residents in communities along the Kiski River in Westmoreland County have been advised to boil their water because the faulty filter might have allowed water tainted with dangerous algae to contaminate its entire supply.

HARRISBURG — Two women in separate cases are challenging Pennsylvania’s policy that says same-sex couples aren’t covered under the inheritance tax waiver that applies to heterosexual couples.Barbara Alma Baus filed a petition in Northampton County’s orphan’s court on Friday, saying she married Catherine Burgi-Rios in Connecticut in 2011 and shouldn’t have to pay the 15 percent levy on Burgi-Rios’ estate.This week in Harrisburg a Department of Revenue Board of Appeals hearing officer is scheduled to consider a protest of the inheritance taxes charged to the estate of Jeanne Schwartz. Her partner Nancy Nixon is seeking to overturn a $21,000 tax bill.
