B.C. Bears feature 10 all-star gridders
The Butler County Bears will be represented by 10 players in the Ohio Football League All-Star Game next month.
The game will be played Sept. 7 in Ohio. The exact location and time have not been determined.
Three Karns City graduates — outside linebacker Justin Switzer, wide receiver Stephon Conto and punter Erik Fuhrer — are among the Bears’ selections. Switzer leads the team with 56.5 tackles, 12.5 quarterback sacks, 14 tackles for loss and five fumble recoveries.
Conto leads the squad with 23 catches for 514 yards and seven touchdowns.
Two Butler graduates — free safety Bill McCaslin and defensive tackle Josh McCaslin — also made the team. Josh McCaslin has 24.5 tackles and 6.5 sacks while Bill McCaslin has recorded 25.5 tackles and two interceptions.
Moniteau graduate and Bears running back James Shope is the team’s leading rusher with 94 carries for 606 yards and nine touchdowns. Seneca Valley graduate Brian Perry has 18 receptions and four TD catches for the Bears.
Inside linebacker Randall Palakovich (Aliquippa), running back Steve Cupec (West Shamokin) and defensive tackle Jamal Conroy (Shaler) round out the Bears’ all-star selections.
Palakovich has 52 tackles, including a team-high 26 solos, and 11 tackles for loss. Cupec has rushed for 563 yards and eight TDs while Conroy has accumulated 20 tackles, 4.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
