LOGANVILLE — Police say a fire chief was struck and killed by a drunken driver while he was directing traffic at an accident scene.

Firefighters in York County gathered on Sunday night to remember Loganville Fire Chief Rodney Miller, who was killed in the accident near the Glen Rock exit of Interstate 83 early Saturday morning.

Authorities say 32-year-old Shrewsbury resident Matthew Scott Diehl has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. Diehl is being held in prison after being denied bail. It wasn't immediately clear if he had hired an attorney.

Police say Diehl was trying to go around Miller's parked vehicle, which had its emergency lights on, when his SUV struck Miller as he directed traffic. Miller was pronounced dead at a hospital.

MONACA — Officials say an oil company's decision on whether to build a proposed petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania might be pushed back to next year.Governor Tom Corbett said Friday that he “never had June as a date” for Shell Oil to decide on the multibillion-dollar plant.The governor said he's always thought “it would be early next year.” And he said his conversations with officials indicate “they're still moving forward.”The June 30 deadline stems from a six-month extension Shell negotiated at year's end with Horsehead Corp. for the site, about 35 miles north of Pittsburgh.The so-called cracker plant would convert natural gas liquids from the Marcellus Shale into chemicals such as ethylene used to make plastics and other products.

BETHEL PARK — Authorities in Western Pennsylvania have released the name of a man shot to death after reportedly brandishing a wooden club in an attack on the owners of a music store.The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the man Sunday as 31-year-old Andrew Moore of Venetia.Police said the man entered the store but left after a few minutes, went to his car and then returned carrying the club, which the chief said he used to strike the wife of the store owner.Investigators said the owner came to his wife's defense and also was attacked, and the two struggled briefly before the owner pulled a revolver and shot and killed the attacker.The two victims were taken to UPMC Mercy, where a hospital spokesman said no information was available about their condition. Police said earlier that they were expected to recover.Police Chief John Mackey said robbery appeared not to be the motive, and he didn't know whether the owners knew the man.Family friend Chuck DiSalvo said the owners told him that they did not recognize their attacker.The store in Bethel Park sells musical instruments and offers music lessons, according to its Facebook page.
