Huskies win pair over weekend

The Pittsburgh Huskies U16AA hockey team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend in non-league games.

The Huskies topped the U15AAA Pittsburgh Selects, 5-3, before downing the Armstrong Arrows by a 5-1 margin.

Dustin Davis scored twice and added an assist in the victory over the Selects, while Perry Shiring, Cam Williams and Nick Whann also added goals. Connor Scott, Jake Snyder, Marcus Krstonich, Dalton Scott, Christian Miller and Whann tallied assists. Goalie Clay Bachman made 20 saves.

Bobby Kinsey, Whann, Davis, Miller and Krstonich notched goals against the Arrows. Assists were doled out by Damian Deltondo, Connor Scott, Rick Dengler, Nick Makozy, Ethan Marie, Miller and Whann. Bachman had nine stops.

The Huskies return to action on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the Butler Valley Dawgs at the Ice Connection.

Butler, Knoch youth wrestlers fare well

Butler’s Levi Donnel and Vance Jackson, along with Knoch’s Dalton Reed claimed first-place honors this weekend at the Hampton Novice Wrestling Tournament.

Donnel won the 8-under, 50-pound championship, while Jackson took the crown at 10-under, 55 pounds. Reed’s triumph came at 10-under, 100 pounds.

Butler’s Zade Lillie (6-under, 50), Noah Convery (8-under, 75) and Logan Donnel (12-under, 80) were runner-up finishers, as well as Knoch’s Christian Scheller (8-under, 65), Dustin Schlagel (10-under, 110) and Kyle Lauster (10-under, 65).

Sam Freyermuth (10-under, 85) scored third place for Knoch, while Butler’s Nikko Lille (8-under, 60) and Knoch’s Tristan Lynch (12-under, 80) claimed fourth.

The Butler, Knoch and Ellwood City youth wrestling teams will square off against each other on Saturday in team duals.
