Ora E. 'Zip' Schomer
Ora E. “Zip” Schomer, 87, formerly of Butler, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Boardman, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 9, 1925, in Clearfield Township to the late Samuel J. Sutton and Helen (Blose) Sutton.
Mrs. Schomer was a 1943 graduate of Butler High School. She worked at Deshon VA Army Hospital as a secretary from 1944 to 1946. Mrs. Schomer worked at Butler County Community College and also at the Visiting Nurses Association of Butler County as a secretary for both organizations. Mrs. Schomer was a licensed beautician, operating a shop in her home in Butler. Following retirement, she and her husband lived in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was a former member of Hill United Presbyterian Church in Butler, where she played the handbells, and Pasadena Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. Most recently, she attended Canfield Presbyterian Church in Canfield, Ohio. She enjoyed playing the piano and the electronic organ, round dancing, bowling, sewing and crocheting. She was a former charter member of the Sunnyview Auxiliary and a member of AARP.
Mrs. Schomer is survived and was loved by two sons, the Rev. Dr. Dan Schomer and his wife, Joan, of Canfield, Ohio, and Terry L. Schomer and his wife, Kathy, of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Eileen, Erin Lundeen, Matthew and Ian; one great-grandson, Benjamin Lundeen; one sister, Peg McPherson and one brother, Don Sutton, both of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, who she married Feb. 21, 1946, and who passed away April 3, 2003; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Sutton.
SCHOMER — Friends of Ora E. “Zip” Schomer, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Bowald of Canfield Presbyterian Church officiating.
