BCC hosts McCandless Memorial tournament
PENN TWP — The fourth annual Butler Country Club Jamie McCandless Memorial Adult-Junior Tennis Tournament took place on Labor Day.
The event featured 19 doubles teams — adult and youth club members teaming up — and 40 spectators.
“We had players come in from all over the country for this,” BCC tennis pro Whitney Snyder said. “Players were here from Arizona, New York City, Florida and Cleveland.”
Dr. Bud Santora teamed with Blake Benko to defeat Laura Santora — Dr. Santora’s wife — and Brooke Bauer in the championship match. Benko was part of the winning doubles team in this tournament last year, as well.
Jamie McCandless was a popular member of the country club’s youth tennis program before being killed in an automobile accident four years ago. Members of his family were on hand to present the championship trophy.
The McCandless Memorial marked the final tennis event of the season at Butler Country Club.
