Wayne Bernard Cleveland, 87, of Butler passed away after an eight-year battle with Alz-heimer's on Wednesday at St. Barnabas Arbors in Gibsonia.

He was born April 8, 1924, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of the late Wayne Bayard and Gertrude (Canton) Cleveland.

Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was an engineer for the Armco, now AK Steel, Project 600, director of maintenance and engineering for Butler Memorial Hospital and, at 60, was founder and owner of WBC and Associates Electrical and Mechanical Consultants.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge 272, Scottish Rite of New Castle, Syria Temple, Butler Caravan, Elks 170, Moose Lodge 64 and the Armco Golf Club. He was a graduate of Franklin Tech in Boston and did his graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh.

At 77, he wrote and published the book “Reminiscence of a Traveling Salesman's Son.” He enjoyed hunting, golfing and playing his clarinet in many bands. He continued to entertain residents with his music up until nine months ago at New Haven Court and St. Barnabas. Wayne was a man with a sense of humor who loved life.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mary Lou) Boben of Butler, Mrs. David (Nancy) Zirnsak of Butler and Mrs. Ben (Jeanne) Bestwick of Zelienople; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerome A. Cleveland of Paramus, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Louise Cleveland, who died Oct. 24, 2006; an infant son; and a sister.

<B>CLEVELAND</B> — Friends of Wayne Bernard Cleveland, who passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, will be received at <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with Masonic services at 6:45 p.m.Funeral services will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Joel Benson officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Prospect.
