Bernice Minerva Goldinger Shaffer

Bernice Minerva Goldinger Shaffer, 96, of Adrian, Armstrong County, died Sunday in her home.

She was born March 19, 1915, in Templeton, Armstrong County. She was the daughter of John and Matilda Rebecca (White) Goldinger.

Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker. She was a member of the Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian and a former deaconess at Brethren in Christ Church.

She also volunteered at the Washington Township fire hall.

Mrs. Shaffer enjoyed camping, flowers, gardening, quilting and playing bingo. She made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was very devoted to her family, and everyone who knew her will miss her wonderful smile.

Mrs. Shaffer is survived by her children, Irene (James) Tarr of Adrian, Bud (Sharyn) Shaffer of Adrian, David (Nancy) Shaffer of Adrian, Betty (Ellsworth) Blystone of Karns City, Dan (Adrian) Shaffer of Leechburg, Frank (Laurie) Shaffer of Adrian, Ronald Shaffer of Tarentum and Cora Mae Shaffer of Ford Cliff; 32 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Shaffer; a son, Wilson Shaffer; two infant children, a son and daughter; her parents; two brothers, Merle Goldinger and John Goldinger; three sisters, Mary Flemm, Edna Shaffer and Rose Fairman; four infant sisters; an infant brother; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

<B>SHAFFER — </B>Friends of Bernice Minerva Shaffer, who died March 4, 2012, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>SNYDER CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME</B>, 832 E. Brady Road, Cowansville. Friends will also be received from 10 a.m. until the services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brush Valley Brethren Church, Adrian, with the Rev. Vincent Edwin officiating. Interment will follow at Limestone Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the Brush Valley Brethren Church, the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the Washington Township Fire Hall.
