Ida M. Findley

Findley

Ida M. Findley, 87, of Butler passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in the Pittsburgh suburb of Avalon, the daughter of Albert and Genevieve Zilliox Kuhn.

In her early adulthood she was employed as a secretary at H.J. Heinz Co.

Mrs. Findley was married to Robert W. Findley, who preceded her in death. She is survived by a cousin, Robert Hamm.

The Butler-Saxonburg area has lost a dear friend and a most active and generous supporter of civic activities.

Along with her many supporting activities for the local community, she was long an ardent supporter of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). Ida served as president of local GFWC clubs, and through 1968 to 1994, she progressed as president at the Butler County level, the Southwest Pennsylvania District level, and finally at the Pennsylvania state level followed by President of the Mid-Atlantic Region. She also served 20 years on the International Board of GFWC.

Honors received by Ida include the Butler Health System Women of Legacy Award and the Dominion-VITA Volunteer Award presented by WQED. Also, she was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Butler Rotary and Butler County Chamber of Commerce, the Hestia Award from VOICE, and the Woman of Distinction Award from the Soroptimists.

From 1964 to the present, Ida served on the board of the Butler Symphony Orchestra. She also served on the Butler Arts Council. Since its formation, Ida was active in fundraising efforts for the Maridon Museum of Butler. In the past, she served on the board of the Bradley Center in Dorseyville and on the board of the Butler Area Agency on Aging. Upon the recent formation of the Community Health Clinic of Butler, she supported its fundraising activities.

Mrs. Findley began her service in health care in 1986 when she joined the board of Butler Memorial Hospital. For nine years, until her husband's health failed, she played a significant role in leading the hospital as it developed into a regional provider of care. After Robert's passing, she renewed her activity by becoming a volunteer in the BMH Auxiliary, serving in multiple capacities and recently serving as a member of the board and as the volunteer coordinator. Most recently Mrs. Findley's generosity made possible the auditorium and learning center in the new tower at the BMH campus.

Mrs. Findley was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Cabot.
