Equestrian team making strides

BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area/Culver training stables English and Western equestrian teams recently completed their regular show season.

The English high school team tied for year-end high points in the 40-team Interscholastic Equestrian Association zone that covers Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. The Butler middle school team won the championship for its division.

Of the 37 riders on Butler’s English team, 12 earned enough points to compete in the Zone Finals Sunday in Flemington, N.J. They will compete for berths in the NationalInterscholastic Equestrian Team Finals April 20-22 in Syracuse, N.Y.

The high school Western team finised the regular season in third place while the middle school took fourth. Eight of Butler’s 17 Western riders earned sports in the Zone Finals April 29 in Tyrone.

They will compete for berths in the national finals at Oklahoma City in June.
