Carrie E. Oertel
Carrie E. Oertel, 84, of Connoquenessing passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at her home.
She was born Sept. 5, 1927, in West Franklin Township to the late George Washington Kidd and Flora Dora (Anthony) Kidd.
Mrs. Oertel worked for the Spaide Shirt Factory and G.C. Murphy and was a tax collector for Connoquenessing, where she retired in 1974.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and ceramics and was widely known for her baking. Mrs. Oertel loved to go camping with her family and friends. She loved her two dogs, Coy and Tipper, who were her constant companions.
Mrs. Oertel was a member of the Connoquenessing United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Oertel is survived by two sons, William A. Oertel and his wife, Darlene, of Evans City and Douglas W. Oertel and his wife, Linda, of Connoquenessing; one daughter-in- law, Kay A. Oertel of West Sunbury; eight grandchildren, Cindy Schaffer and her husband, Dan, Toni Shalbot and her husband, Wayne, Carrie A. Scheerbaum and her husband, Scott, Candy Ziegler, Michelle Wolfe, Timmy Wolfe, Tracy Wolfe and her husband, Randy, and Rick Harold and his wife, Janet; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Autum and Jacob; two sisters, Elmira M. Zirnsak of Evans City and Betty J. Mager and her husband, Paul, of Connoquenessing; two foster sisters, Mary Zeigler and Dorothy Peffer; and also her friends, Lois Switzer and Kay Leavens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W. Oertel, who she married on April 3, 1946, and who passed away Jan. 8, 2008; two sons, Larry E. and Perry L. Oertel,; one sister, Linda D. Brice; and one brother, Billy Kidd.
<B>OERTEL</B> — Friends of Carrie E. Oertel, who passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, will be received at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Kurt Knobel of the Connoquenessing United Methodist Church officiating.
