Lynn Charles Thompson, 75, died at 10 p.m. Saturday the VA Butler Healthcare.

He was born on March 5, 1936, in Cranford, N.J., the oldest child of the late Louise Throop Thompson and the late Brose Elmer Thompson.

Lynn attended public schools in Slippery Rock, Evans City and Crafton, graduating from Crafton High School in 1954. He lettered in football, basketball and baseball and was voted “handsomest man” in his senior class at Crafton.

Lynn entered Grove City College in the fall of 1954 and earned a letter in football before enlisting in the Navy at the end of his first semester.

He was an electronics crew member on a P2V Neptune antisubmarine plane, attaining the rank of petty officer second class. Following four years of honorable service, Lynn returned to Grove City College where he was elected to Pi Gamma Mu, the National Social Science Honor Society. He was a member of Epsilon Pi Fraternity, and he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in history in 1962.

Lynn entered the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America. While there, he was chairman of the Student Moot Court Board and served as research editor on the Student Editorial Board of the Law Review. He was elected to the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and he is a life member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International.

Lynn received his Juris Doctor degree in 1965. He was recognized for outstanding assistance in defending indigent persons accused of crime in the District of Columbia.

Lynn served his clerkship at the United States Court of Claims. He was a member of the Commonwealth of Virginia Bar and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Bar, and he was qualified to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. He worked for the Federal Communications Commission and for the Butler County Courts.

Lynn was a full member of the American Radio Relay League, Inc., and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of these service organizations: the VFW, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and AMVETS. He was a 100 percent service connected disabled veteran.

Lynn is survived by his brother, Jack Thompson of Grove City; two nieces, Susan (Randy) Gorman of Baltimore, Md., and Sharon (Robert) Stevenson of Port Angeles, Wash.; a nephew, Steven (Renee) Thompson of Akron, Ohio; five grandnieces, Emily, Katherine, and Anna Gorman, Callie Peet, and Lindsay (Ben) Thompson Beaver; two grandnephews, Grayson Peet and David Thompson; three step-grandnieces, Ashley, Elizabeth, and Janelle Stevenson; a step-grandnephew, Bobby Stevenson; and Lynn's first wife, Pauline Carmen Thompson of Falls Church, Va.

Predeceasing Lynn in addition to his parents, was his wife, Patricia Ann Parker, formerly of Petrolia, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Carol Thompson, formerly of Grove City.

<B>THOMPSON</B> — Funeral services for Lynn Charles Thompson, who died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, will be at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Steven Lynn Thompson presiding.Visitation at the funeral home will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Harrisville Prairie Cemetery with military honors.Memorial contributions may be made to the various military service support organizations.
