Butler junior high drops mat dual; Hoops teams win

Butler’s junior high wrestling team dropped a 54-39 decision to Greensburg Salem recently.

Winning by pinfall for the Golden Tornado were Caleb Baxter at 95 pounds, Jacob Stutz at 122, Chris Boyd at 165, Justin Johnson at 185 and JD Bojanec at 250.

Winning by decision were Austin Birckbichler at 80 pounds, Hugh O’Neil at 85 and Hank Finan at 138. Butler (9-7) competes Saturday at the North Allegheny tournament.

• Noah Ferguson scored 14 points and Terrence Maryland Thompson had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Butler Catholic eighth-grade boys basketball team beat Alpha 34-16.

Butler Catholic is now 7-0 in section play.

• Joel Stutz had 14 points and Jefferson Ford added seven more as the Butler seventh-grade White boys basketball team defeated Seneca Valley Black 35-19.

Butler (10-2) will play at Fox Chapel Friday.

• The Butler Catholic junior varsity girls basketball team got eight points from Leah Bowden in a 14-0 win over St. Alexis.
