BUTLER TWP — Students from the Butler School District competed and attended at two career events in November and December.

• More than 1,300 students from Western Pennsylvania competed in business and academic events Dec. 15 at a regional conference and competition of the Future Business Leaders of America.

Clarissa Boring won first place in personal finance, and

Max Mook won second.

Justin Sapar won first place in computer programming.

Heather Paul won second place in business calculation, and

Kendra Bobby won third.

Chad Walter won fourth place in cyber security.• The Butler Intermediate High School was the site Nov. 19 for an elections convention sponsored by the Butler YMCA Youth and Government program.The goal of the statewide club is for students to identify social issues and problems and write legislation to resolve them, which leads to research and debate among club members.The election conventions and mock sessions lead to a model legislature and administration convention in Harrisburg each spring.———Students present capstone researchNEW WILMINGTON — Westminster College students presented their capstone research posters Dec. 2 in the Witherspoon Maple Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Chaz Danilchak of Butler is the son of Carol Danilchak and a graduate of Butler High School.His research was “Effects of Bisphenol-A on Development and Heart Rate of Embryonic Zebrafish (Danio rerio).”

Ashley Grenet of Butler is the daughter of Edward and Mary Grenet and a graduate of Butler High School.Her research was “The Effects of Ran Localization with Thapsigargin Treatment and Rescue with BAPTA.”

Hunter McClevish of Slippery Rock is the son of David and Laurie McClevish and a graduate of Moniteau High School.His research was “Effects of Seratonin Inhibition on Memory and Learning in Red Harvester Ants, Pogonomyrmex barbatus.”

Samantha Weston of Valencia is the daughter of Reid and Pamela Weston and a graduate of Mars High School.Her research was “Natural and Chelate-Assisted Phytoremediation of Cadmium (Cd) by Myriophyllum spicatum (Eurasian Water Milfoil).”

Patrick Gillen of Emlenton and

Katherine Kosiorek of Slippery Rock performed in the Dec. 4 “The Spirit of the Season” concert at Lock Haven University.Gillen performed in men’s ensemble and is a junior majoring in health science: pre-physical assistant.Kosiorek performed in cantori and is a freshman also majoring in health science: pre-physical assistant.———

Alyssa Davidson has been accepted to attend La Roche College in Pittsburgh to pursue a career in psychology.She a senior at Seneca Valley High School and the daughter of Lisa Davidson of Cranberry Township and Al Davidson of Zelienople.———

Brianna Moore of Butler was inducted into the Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Butler County Community College.Moore is majoring in Communications and is the daughter of Larry and Aimee Moore of Butler.
