Haley Thomas of Cranberry Township has been selected for the 2011 Junior Mendel ssohn Choir of Pittsburgh.The choir is comprised of 40 high school singers from the region.Haley is a junior at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland.She plans to attend college and to pursue a career in vocal performance.This is the choir’s 25th anniversary season.It will culminate in a Nov. 26 performance at the Omni William Penn, Pittsburgh, where alumni and former music directors will join the current choir in song.———
Nicole George of Valencia presented a display on solar energy and sustainability in motion at the Ohio River Watershed Cruise on Sept. 22
The boat, with nearly 400 passengers from the environmental field, cruised the Ohio and Allegheny rivers near Pittsburgh.Scientific presentations on the local watershed and Marcellus Shale energy extraction were given and more than 20 educational displays related to watersheds, conservation and alternative energy were on exhibit.George is a junior chemistry major at Westminster College.She is the daughter of Jonathan and Lisa George of Valencia and a graduate of Mars High School.———
Tyler Daniel Boyd of Gibsonia has enrolled at Clemson University in South Carolina. Boyd is majoring in pre-business.———
Erica Hillwig will participate in the Westminster at London Program for Westminster CollegeHillwig is a sophomore psychology major. She is the daughter of Boyd and Shirley Hillwig and a graduate of Karns City High School.———
Clarissa Kimmey is the first of nine area students to receive the Riverset Star Student award from Riverset Credit Union.Clarissa is a senior at Moniteau High School and has a 4.0 GPA.She is involved in a number of activities as a member and leader and is a volunteer at Butler Hospital.
