Butler hockey players shine during Keystone State Games
HARRISBURG — Butler was well represented at the 2011 Keystone State Games ice hockey tournament held July 29-31 at the Twin Ponds East Ice Complex in Harrisburg.
Eight Butler players participated for the Central team in three age divisions; Bantam (U14), Midget (U18), and Junior (U20). The Bantam team captured the gold medal by defeating the East (5-2), South (6-1), and West (8-1). Goalie Clay Bachman recorded the victory against the South and split time with goaltender Michael Hale in the gold medal game.
Troy Double recorded six assists, Nick Whann tallied three goals and an assist, and Matt Tomasovic added a goal and an assist.
The Midget team won the silver medal by defeating the East (2-1) and the South (5-1), before dropping a 5-4 decision to the West team in overtime of the gold medal game.
Jake Tomasovic — with three goals and two assists — was second in scoring for all participants competing in the Midget division. Defenseman Jake Whann added an assist.
The Junior team captured the silver medal as well with victories over the East (8-2) and West (10-3), dropping a 5-3 decision to the South. Maverick Goepfert scored three goals and RC Double added an assist.
