Beverly Corll Lewis

Lewis

Beverly Jean Corll Lewis, 1621 Hartford Road, Sharpsville, Mercer County, passed away Saturday morning the hospital of the Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 73.

Mrs. Lewis was born June 25, 1937, in Hubbard, Ohio, a daughter of Oscar F. and Freda Wise Corll.

She married Scott W. Lewis on Aug. 6, 1966, in the Hubbard Methodist Church.

After graduating from Hubbard High School, Beverly entered and graduated from Slippery Rock University, where she majored in physical education. After completing her undergraduate requirements, she completed her master's degree. As an outstanding athlete, she was elected to the Slippery Rock University Sports Hall of Fame.

She loved teaching physical education. Beverly loved her work and performed it well. She was a student teacher supervisor for 32 years and took a personal interest in each of her students, always helping, counseling and mentoring where possible. Her students were assigned to schools throughout Western Pennsylvania. She also was responsible for student teachers in Ireland and military bases in Germany.

During this time, she made many close friends abroad. Her responsibilities took her across the Atlantic 56 times by air. She had the privilege of working at the Summer Olympics in Rome. She loved her work, her students and Slippery Rock University.

Upon her retirement, SRU bestowed upon her the honor of professor emeritus.

She enjoyed people and was liked by all who knew her. She was a professional in all respects and as such, was named Businesswoman of the Year by the Sharon Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.

Beverly and her husband, Scott, loved to travel. Through the years, they toured more than 100 countries, many of them more than once. She collected many artifacts during her travels. She was keenly interested in antiques. She was a serious photographer, having taken numerous pictures during her travels, special events and family gatherings, all of which are a part of a sizable photo library.

Beverly and Scott had a lifelong devotion to each other. They were inseparable — where you saw one, you saw the other. They had no children. Her parents predeceased her.

In addition to her beloved husband, Scott, she is survived by her sister, Marjorie E. Bucci of Hubbard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Recognition and thanks are extended to the group of wonderful caregivers. It was only through their special loving care and diligent effort that made it possible for Bev to spend her final years in the warmth and comfort of her own home.
