The Butler Catholic girls junior varsity basketball team defeated St. Joan of Arc of Bethel Park 21-5 in their first-round diocese playoff game.

Emily Hegedus led the team with nine points and Sophia Wiest had six points for the Saints, who will face St. James in the next round Friday.

• Annie Hegedus, Mary McConnell and Christina Friel had six points each, but the Butler Catholic girls varsity squad fell to St. Therese of Munhall 38-19 in the opening round of the diocese playoffs.
