Saxonburg weighs police deal
SAXONBURG — The borough might be able to provide around-the-clock police protection through a contract with Clinton Township.
Mayor Jody Pflueger said at Wednesday's meeting the revenue garnered by providing police coverage to the township could be enough to increase the borough's budget for department salaries.
"It could afford us 24-7 police coverage," she said.
Pflueger said there is a potential for additional profit.
She plans to meet with township supervisors Sept. 13 to discuss the terms.
Pflueger said a contract would benefit both municipalities.
"It's a win-win situation," she said.
Clinton Township supervisor Mary Zacherl agreed the prospect of a police contract with the borough is worth discussing.
"We want to hear what they have to say," Zacherl said.
Not every Saxonburg official was enthused by the prospect.
Councilman Dennis Chambers said the department needs to worry about offering better service in the borough.
He said police should be issuing more tickets and fewer warnings.
"I don't see how we could sell our services to someone else," Chambers said.
