Since the new patient tower at Butler Memorial Hospital opened Aug. 1, a few hospital neighbors have complained about noise.

A noise solution was installed Thursday night by Turner Construction.

A letter to the editor published in the Butler Eagle earlier this month prompted Ken DeFurio, president and CEO of the Butler Health System, and Larry Moore, in charge of hospital operations, to tour the neighborhood and talk with residents.

Connie Downs, BHS spokeswoman, said after the neighborhood walk, Moore contacted Turner Construction, construction contractor for the new hospital wing, to seek a solution.

That solution, a muffler for a vacuum pump, was installed Thursday in hopes of reducing the noise that has been described as a loud hum.

"We want to be good neighbors and look forward to feedback after the muffler is in place," Downs said.
